TESLAconverter® Technology

Today, TESLAco is primarily employing the TESLAconverter technology, which is superior to many other known topologies. This circuit was invented by Dr. Ćuk and is protected worldwide by four U.S. patents and equivalent foreign patents. DC/DC designs based on the TESLAconverter technology, which are currently on the market, can exceed 96% efficiency, which allows for convection cooling even if implemented in a small size chassis. This superior and high performance technology is currently used in power supplies for space applications. The importance of high efficiency and ultimate energy savings was recently recognized by big computer manufactures. Thus, TESLAco was able to successfully develop several highly efficient power supplies with 600W and 1000W output power rating for high volume production. These cost competitive designs are used in high-end computer models.

History

Founded in 1979,Optimum Power Conversion, Inc., d.b.a. TESLAco, gained its reputation as a hi-tech company specialized in custom designs of the high efficiency and high power density switched-mode power supplies for commercial, industrial, medical, military, and space applications. TESLAco is named after the scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla (1856 - 1943), who is one of the greatest inventors of the 20th century, to preserve and honor his numerous contributions to electrical power processing.

ĆUKonverter® Technology

TESLAco had an exclusive license from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) to the ĆUKonverter, and all patents generated by the Caltech Power Electronics Group. For the invention of a new switching converter topology and several of its extensions, Dr. Ćuk, Professor at Caltech until the year 2000, and Chairman of TESLAco, won the IR 100 Award in 1980 from the Industrial Research Magazine. Dr. Ćuk also won the Franklin Institute Edward Longstreth Medal Award in 1991 for pioneering and expediting the development of integrated magnetics and switched-mode power conversion. Over time, TESLAco has developed numerous high-performance custom designs for its licensees.
